BO4 - Dynamic biar file backups?

Hi,

We have a folder and whilst can create and schedule a biar fiel abckup of this, belivee this will only backup the contents to .biar which existed at the time the biar job was created.

What ideally want is to have a scheduled biar job which exports the content of this folder daily to .biar including any reports which were added to it since .biar job created otherwise would need to crate a new job each time reports added to folder.

Is this possible?

Using bo4 sp6.

We have our cms + frs backups in addition to this but the abopve would make restoring indvidual reports easier.

Thanks

Philip

Hi Philip,

Let us have a look at automating the BIAR backup using BIAR engine.

http://scn.sap.com/people/raphael.branger/blog/2012/09/10/backup-recovery-in-bo-40

The downside here is that you should query your Public folders SI_ID using Query builder and use it in your *.properties file of auomation script.

Mani

Using promotion management, you can schedule the job. It should pick up the objects newly added. I had an issue while we were in SP4, i could not schedule it via promotion management. SAP also acknowledge that this is a bug. Expected to fix in SP6. But i have not tested the fix.

or you can use the method as Mani mentioned above.

Hi,

Thanks for replies.

Jawahar - doesn't seem to pick up newly added  reports in folder by default - we are using bo4 sp6.

Would be good if did - have you tried this yet at your side/anybody else managed to get it to do this.

Regrading  using query builder

Found one of your links Mani - looks useful.

http://scn.sap.com/community/bi-platform/blog/2012/10/11/businessobjects-query-builder-queries

to identify the folders and looks like query builder may be available below from other link.

as not immediately visible unlike in earlier vesrion sof bo.

Is below still best way to access query builder in bo4 below.

http://localhost:<tomcat_port>/AdminTools/querybuilder/logonform.jsp

In terms of restore, would we then need to use upgrade managment tool to restore since a .biar rather rather than a.lcmbiar?

Take it no way of uisng LCM?

Thanks

Promotion manager does not pick up new reports and SAP recommended against using this funciton as a backup strategy all together at a recent SAP conference.  Further, promotion manager has a performance limit of less than 100 objects.

There seems to be no good way to perform selective document recovery.

I would suggest you post an enhancement suggestion in the SAP idea place ideaplace.sap.com

I would vote for it!

I have not tried.

QueryBuilder access in BO 4.0 : http://localhost:8080/AdminTools.

LCM is integrated within CMC, now it is called Promotion Management. LCMBIAR is the only option while backing up to biar is available.

You don't need to use upgrade management tool to restore. Upgrade Management tool will be used while upgrading from BO 3.1 system to BO 4.0 System.

Promoted. I also had one idea related to this. Please check this out. I hope this will be useful for all of us.

This is the topic. Biar file should have the option select the objects while importing
