Shipping type, means of transport and delivery priority

Hello, pls can i need someone to validate the below issues.

Shipping type, means of transport type (packing material type for means of transport) and delivery priority are available as a selection criteria when one need to select deliveries for including them in shipment documents while creating shipments.

But i still need to have the following answers

1 ) How does the shipment type being created based out of delivery priority/shipping type/Means of transport. Iam assuming means of transport means packing material type for means of transport

2) Means of transport type (packing material type for means of transport  ) and means of transport and shiiping type are three fields  in the sales order header and item level . if a sales order has two line items, we can have different data in these three fields. If that is the case, do they cause delivery split when creating delivery for an SO ?

3)  Is there any relationship between Shipping type and delivery priority?

4) What is the concept of collective shipment ? How shipments documents are bundled together. Does any of the fields above (shipping type, means of transport type, means of transport and delivery priority ) have effect on collective shipments?

regards

Pamela

Hi,

"How does the shipment type being created based out of delivery priority/shipping type/Means of transport."

There is no automatic connection. YOU decide what you make out of it.

"Iam assuming means of transport means packing material type for means of transport"

Yes. Just different name, because supposedly you enter something here you use for transport, not for packing.

"if a sales order has two line items, we can have different data in these three fields. If that is the case, do they cause delivery split when creating delivery for an SO ?"

As so often, it depends . These fields are only header data in the delivery. The "standard" copying routine copies the fields fromt the sales order item to the delivery header - and if they are different, then of course this leads to a split. If you don't want that, you don't use the standard copying routine - but then of course the fields in the delivery are empty. Or you build you own logic.

"3)  Is there any relationship between Shipping type and delivery priority?"

Again, only what you make out of it. The system has not relationship between these fields.

"4) What is the concept of collective shipment ? How shipments documents are bundled together. Does any of the fields above (shipping type, means of transport type, means of transport and delivery priority ) have effect on collective shipments?"

I suppose you refer to the "ProcessControl" setting in the shipment type? The idea of a "collective shipment" first of all is that you have deliveries for more then one ship-to-party combined in a shipment. But that is nothing the system checks. The more important part is the "using one mode of transport" or "using several modes of transport" - and I don't believy anything of that has any automatic relevance.

And none of the fields have any effect on the shipment.

Hi Jurgen,

Can we determine shipping type automatically based on any conditions ?
