Hi,
What are the current options to view BW data in BO explorer.
Is there an option to use Bex Query and expose it directly in BO Explorer?
Are we still using universes on top of Bex queries to expose data in explorer?
I read somewhere that there are two different formats of Universes. Which one do we have to use if Universes are the option.
I know if we use BWA we can use BWA Explorer to expose cubes and use the data in explorer. But with this approach we are limited to the data in the cube and we loose those restrictions and filters we use in Bex. Any suggestions on this?
Also can you provide the steps for the best option?
DV
Hi Dave,
you can create a Universe (UNV) in Universe Design Tool based on your BEx query.
Then you can expose that to Explorer as such:
In CMC > Applications > Explorer > Advanced Configuration section add:
com.sap.explorer.unv.enabled=true
Restart Explorer services.
Just to let you know that this is only available as of Explorer 4.0 SP6 and not officially supported. Support starts in upcoming Explorer 4.1.

Regarding BWA:
You can create a BWA index on a BEx query snapshot and use that in Explorer.
For data access control on a Cube or MultiProvider Index you will need to create Analysis Authorization (RSECADMIN)
There is also the option of Explorer Personalization layer for data access restriction.
Hi Dave
If you have neither HANA nor BWA in place, you can still have two options for using Explorer on top of Bex:
1. use an .unv universe on top of a Bex Query as suggested here. This is the second option suggested by Ingo available as of BI4.1.
2. Load your Bex query to a DSO in BW, and expose the data to Explorer via an .unx as suggested here. This is available as of BW 7.3

Hi,
in BI 4.0 you have the option to leverage a relational UNX (BI4 Universe) on top of the InfoProvider level.
In BI4.1 you can leverage a legacy Universe (UNV) on top of a BEx query in a BI4 environment, but keep in mind that it will flatten the view.
When BW runs on SAP HANA you can also expose a BW InfoProvider as HANA Analytical View and Explorer can then leverage the analytical view in HANA directly
