Re-Implementation of BW 7.3 on HANA

Hello,

At present we are having a SAP BW 7.0 system on oracle database. We are planning to move it to HANA. as part of pre-requisites we need to upgrade the BW system to BW 7.3..After looking up various approaches, we have decided to re-implement BW 7.3 on sap HANA. Some of the critical flows will be rebuild in the new server. Just wanted to know that is it possible to transport the flow completely from SAP BW 7.0 on oracle db system to BW 7.3 on HANA db system with the help of a Transport Request ??

IS it feasible? Moreoever if yes, are there any restrictions or limitations with any functionalities not being operational on newer version on HANA. Data flow is just basic with customized DSOs/ Cubes. No extra functionalities implemented.

Please take a look at this webinar/presentation - there are details about transporting the different BW objects between HANA and non-HANA based BW, as well as links to SAP notes for the restrictions, limitations.

Overall, yes, you can use transports. The dataflows should be fine. For InfoCubes please keep in mind that during the import/activation they will be converted as HANA-optimized (see the above presentations for details).

For process chains: there are obsolete process types in BW on HANA (detailed in the presentation).

The 're-implementation' is a good opportunity to start with a clean system, and possible adjust the design according to the latest recommendations (LSA++).

There are other things to consider though, such as reloading the data. If you can afford the required downtime you may need to setup the data load from your current BW to BW on HANA for the data and run the delta initialization w/o data transfer from the source (extra development, cutover planning, ...)

Hi Gabor,

We are thinking in a new installation as project approach with a partial migration to BW on HANA, we want to move the commercial data model but we are concerned about if is possible to configure the system transport between BW 7.00 oracle and BW 7.4 on HANA and then create transports that contain the data model.

Is possible to transport between BW Oracle 7.00 and BW on HANA 7.40?

Hi  Christian Espinoza,

  Yes its possible to transport objects from  7.00 and BW on HANA 7.40.

But please be aware of few changes that will effect the exicting dataflows after transport.

Thanks for sharing this docs, would you please advise known issues with transports from BW 7.0 on oracle to 7.4 on HANA?

do we need to do any work from data base side because both will be different systems anyways.
