Analysis for Office Using BW Datasource and BOE Landscape Promotion

Hi,

We have AO workbooks that have BW queries embedded ( not BI OLAP connection queries, but queries inserted using Data Sources and then logging onto a BW system ) and we are storing the AO files in a BI4 SP4 Patch 2 system.  The AO workbooks are saved in a BOEDEV system and the BW queries selected were from the BW DEV system.

We promoted these AO files to the BOEQA system using BI Promotion Management.  When we launch the AO workbooks from BOEQA the BW query still points to the BW DEV system.  Is there specific configuration required in the CMC / BI system to update the system reference for the BW query as the AO file moved through the landscape?

The BW queries used in the AO workbooks exist in all of our BW environments.

If anyone has any insight into this problem feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,  Mel

Hello Mel,

did you manage to solve this issue?

I have exactly the same problem.

Hi,

The exact issue in my original posting does not have a solution.

Unfortunately the solution that Ingo's reply noted did not answer my specific question.  Ingo's response refers to AO workbooks which use BW data via a BI Platform OLAP connection.  I had noted in my initial question this was not the scenario that we were trying to use.

We opened an OSS Message and the response that we received was that SAP was working to deliver the functionality that I outlined in a future release ( timing unknown ).

Ultimately what we did was rework our AO workbooks ( fortunately we had only converted about 20 reports up to this point ) to use the OLAP connection.

In our BI landscape the OLAP connection for BW was created manually in each environment and has the same name in every environment ( i.e., BW instead of BW_DEV in dev, BW_QA in QA, etc).  If you setup your OLAP connections this way you do not promote the OLAP connection with the AO workbooks.  The datasources are able to find the OLAP connection in the promoted environment and use that OLAP connection without issues.  We have promoted several hundred AO workbooks this way without any issues.

Hope this information is helpful.

Hi,

your Analysis Office workbook is pointing to an OLAP Connection, which points to the BW DEV environment.

You need to move the OLAP Connection from DEV to QA as well and you need to leverage Overrides in the QA Environment.

Would suggest you take a look a the product documentation for the lifecycle management available on help.sap.com
