EDI and SAP XI

Former Member

Currently we have Gentran Server talking to SAP for EDI. What would be the best architecture after implementing SAP XI? Implementing EDI adapter(s) like SEEBURGER in SAP XI OR just leave the Gentran as is and let it talk to SAP via XI. Is anybody having the similar situation? Is it beneficial/ideal to have adapters inside SAP XI instead of having external applications communicating with SAP via XI. What would be the best choice?

Thanks,

AG Ammanur

If u have all the functionality working with gentran then i suggest dont replace it with Xi and Seeburger.

if u r going to replace it then

1) u need to purchase the XI license and Seeburger license which increase the cost.

2) It will be totally different skill sets is required for seeburger adapter.

3) it will be new development and Development effort will increase and which will consume more time.

there are other things also which need to be consider.

Hi AG,

You can still use the Gentran Server to talk to EDI via XI in order to save the cost of purchasing a new adapter.

SAP XI-2.0 has built in IDOC and RFC Adapters to communicate to SAP Systems. For any external communication to non-sap systems, an Adapter is required.

You can install external Adapters, in the same box as XI or in an other box depending upon ur IT Landscape and the Firewall Security issues.

Hi AG,

The XI IDoc adapter can communicate with any IDoc certified 3rd party solutions, i.e. Gentran.

There might be other advantages to going with Seeburger, such as one stop for support, better monitoring of the overall environment etc. Clearly there are a tighter integration with the Seeburger solution.

Best regards,
