shop floor printing

Hi,

We have SAP PP along with an MES system. What is the best place to do print the shopfloor papers ? Is it in the SAP PP module or should we have them all printed in the MES itself ? What are the pros and cons of each approach ? Aany ideas ?

Thanks

Hi G S,

Its better to print the papers at SAP as you have different options like printing the Shop floor papers in SAPScripts, Smartforms or Adobe forms. Adobe forms are the advanced version.

So print the papers at SAP and if it is in Adobe Form you can print (Maintain the printer used in Shop floor so that the docs shall be printed to the necessary printer) and Save in PDF format which shall be emailed to the user if required.

Else in order to send the Documents to the Shop floor automatically by implementing the Interface and send the docs Via Idocs (But this is little complex approach).

Edited by moderation: Please don't ask for points. See the for details.

Shyam

your answer was helpful. Thanks. However I did not understand why you said "

If the MES has all the information then why do we need to use an idoc interface to send the paperwork information ? Cant we have the MES developer develop logic in the MES to print the paperwork there ?

Hi G S,

If the MES system is a non - SAP system then we need to have this interface developed Via Idoc in order to send the necessary details electronically. By Implementing this you can also track whether the information has been sent successfully to MES system or not. This requires development in SAP system and MES system (mainly to interact with SAP).

The simple way is to configure the MES Printer in the SAP system and trigger a print directly from SAP at the time of release of production orders.

Shyam

Hi GS

As you are working on systems which are interfaced together SAP PP & MES, and you are well aware of that both system carry most of the information in common based on what are all data you have interfaced.

You need to decide on your requirement, which system is better to use for printing, as far as finding common data in both system is not an issue, but something uncommon you need to decide where you get that information.

You are the best person to decide to print shop floor paper which system is better, because print option can be found and designed in both systems. I give you one example,

We have a system where production order sequencing and shift definition is done in MES where all other information are gathered from SAP, but we use print option from MES to know my shift level sequence of orders. But if you identify the field in SAP , you can still print this from SAP itself, hope you got my suggestion.
