New plant 2 producing same old semi fin goods

Dear Expert,

Our company was manufacturing a Semi Fin Goods called Sulphuric Acid-Ind in plant 5140 called SAP plant.

Now we have commissioned a new phase 2 plant producing same Sulphuric Acid-Ind.

Is it wise to create a new plant 5145 by copying charcterstics of old 5140 plant and assign BOM of same input material with same/diff qty.

Or a new work centre can be created in liu of new plant. Pl note account assignment will be same for both the plant.

Please advise  looking into performance evaluation of new plant vis - vis old plant and COPA.

Please advise the best practice option in SAP.

SAP must follow business..

I would suggest new plant.. The plant will give you a visibility of the stocks lying there, which a work center cant

Hello Alok,

Yes you can create new plant by copying the same characteristics of old plant. If you manufacture same Semi products in different plants the standard cost should match in ideal scenario so the BOM and Routing should have same values.

Dear Hrusikesh,

Some people are arguing work centre can satisfy all requirement. No need to create new Plant.

Can u suggest what is the advantage and disadvantage of using work centre with standard SAP recommendation.
