Plant or Work centre for new production plant in same location

Dear Experts,

We have a semifinished product called Sulphuri Acid plant-5140 plant. Now in same location we have erected new plant SAP-Phase II producing same semifin goods using same raw material.

Some person arguing to create new work centre with in existing plant 5140. And some others are arguing to create new plant 5145 by copying existing plant.

What is best sap practice. Can any body advise with the benefit of using new work centre and new plant with keeping COPA analysis.

Regards,

Alok

Hi Alok,

If business want to track the inventory and consumption (material stock) plant wise, or profit loss by plant wise then it should be define as new plant. And you need to extend all the plant specific master data to this plant like material master, BOM, routing/recipe, workcenter, ect.

Hi Alok,

In Business / SAP each Plant is legal entity and liable for central and state taxes. If users wants to create plant then it will be a rollout project which includes enterprise structure creation, master data migration and many necessary activities.

Workcenter is just addition to master data. Work centre may be added for improved capacity or productivity.

Please consider these main points during discussion.

Hi Alok

As per SAP, manufacturing units located with in same boundary should be mapped in single plant unless it is a business requirement for mapping COPA/Excise etc.
