Office 365 vs SAP GUI

Former Member

Hello Team,

As many of them knew that Microsoft Office 365 is not compatiable with newest Version of SAP GUI. What is the future if anybody implements MO 365 ? What is the future ? SAP NWBC ?

Does anybody has experience in this ? Or any Notes or guidance will be highly appreciated.

Best regards

Sanjeev

I want to add a few things here and maybe get some help on this.

Office 365 allows you to use the web apps (office 2013) which have reduced functionality.  But it also allows you to do a local install of the Office 2013 applications which are full functional.  We have struggling to get any help on Excel 2013 and Bex analyzer (7.x).  We continue to have issues with Excel 2013.

We also installed a MSI Office 2013 version and see the same issues.

We have conformed to all the specifications that should allow Excel 2013 to work... IE  patch levels, versions, etc..   We have tried SAPGUI 7.2 patch level 9 and now I am trying SAPGUI 7.3 patch level 6.  still no luck.

We can disable the BWanalyzer add-on in Excle 2013 and Excel won't crash.  We enable it and it crashes Excel.

Hello Julian.

Only 7.30 GUI is now supported,so you should focus on this version.

With patch 7 of 7.30 Gui ,Office 2013 64bit is supported, but for Bex,32bit versions must still

be used. See note 722513 again.

If there is a specific issue with 7.30 and BW 7,please create a customer message in

BW-BEX-ET-7X

An R/3 and/or WTS connection would be advised and the logfiles/screenshots provided in

the message.

Jude

From a SAPGUI point of view,Office integration only supports Office 2003,Office 2007,Office 2010 (32bit) and Office 2013 (32bit).

See core note http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/722513

Office 365 is a cloud-based Office package that has various functional

limitations:

Since Desktop Office Integration makes extensive use of these features,
Office 365 cannot be supported by DOI.

Hi Jude,

Thanks for your valuable comments. So what is the alternative ? Maybe I missed this information in your comments and content.

Is the SAP NWBC is the next alternative ? Can you pls put some light on this ?

Best regards

Hello Sanjeev,

NWBC Client is just another layer over the SAPGUI,

Whatever restrictions SAPGUI has, NWBC client will also have.

Therefore, the note restrictions also apply to NWBC client.

This applies to Office Integration, where you have Excel or Word inplace documents being

used.

Hi Jude,

Thanks for your answer. So what is the Roadmap ? Do you have any idea about this ? Or should I open a OSS Message ?

Hello Sanjeev.

An SAP message will provide you with the same note.

Roadmap for what exactly?

You can install Office 365,but there are severe limitations when used with Office Integration.

If you wish to use office integration functionality, then you only have 3 viable options:

1) Office 2007

2) Office 2010 (32bit)

3) Office 2013 (32bit).

No other office product will support office integration features.

NWBC client is just a presentation layer similiar to portal/gui.

it will not have addtional functionalty than is already given by SAPGUI.

Jude

Office 365 is a cloud-based Office package that has various functional limitations and stating that does not support Macros, is a very incorrect statement. By the links you have included below seems there is a confusion with Excel Online or SharePoint+Excel and Excel 365...
