BOFC Cube designer to BW data load

Hi All,

What are the options to move data from BFC 10.0 - Cube designer to SAP BW?

Will Business Objects FIM can be of use? Is there any other option than BODS.

regards

Hello,

Cube Designer allows you to deploy and generates Netweaver BW cubes.

FIM and BODS enables you to read data from BW through a RFC connection and inject data into your target system (BOFC for example).

Hi Matthieu,

We are using the Star Schema option while deployment. I need to move this data to BW.

What are the options available? How is it handled in similar projects? I am sure someone would have done this before.

Hi,

You should have a look into the installation guide of BOFC 10.0 there is a lot of explanation on what you need to do.

To summarize you need to  :

  • upgrade and/or implement several sap notes depending on your version of BW
  • Install FPM Basis on your netweaver platform
  • If you use SQL or Oracle for BOFC you should install SQL or Oracle connectivity
  • do some configuration into BW, roles etc
  • import BW certificate on your cube deployer server (cube deployer is not cube designer)
  • Create a new EPM connection into IPS or BI4 for BW
  • And then .. have fun

So there is a lot of stuff to do on the BW side, and a little on the IPS/BOFC side, however this is not rocket science

Everything is detailed in the FC10 install guide, so you should download the last one and fine a BW buddy available to work with you.

I have gone through the installation document and I just want to crosscheck one part, what is mentioned in the installation document is deploying the cube as netweaver BW.

In my case I am deploying it in SQL database and deployment type is Star Schema (please see the last message screenshot).

I want to extract the data from this star schema table to SAP BW.

Am I missing something (or lot of things may be )

Hi Matthieu,

Can you share how to do this step? We are struggling to find how to do this.

  • import BW certificate on your cube deployer server (cube deployer is not cube designer)

Thank you,

I am not a BW expert and I don't operate BW except when I need to configure SAP BW with SAP EPM.

I think you can export it from the STRUST and then import it on the deployer server.

Thanks Matthieu for the reply. We have exported this actually from STRUST and we have the certificate already. I was just wondering on how to import this in the deployer server?

You Should run mmc  and add the computer certificated snapin.

You should import the certificate into the personal or trusted root certificate store.

Hello,

Sadly, never had a customer that wanted to do that.

I usually retrieve data from more than I inject them into BW.

So I can't help you about that.

Hi,

I have no customer that tried to do that.

I mean, you want to extract data from a StarSchema to the BW PSA and then reuse some of these data into another BW cube ?

Yes Matthieu. Thats what I am trying to do by using the BODS capabilities.

Any thoughts from you on this solution approach?

I guess you might have also evaluated this option.

Any suggestion is appreciated.

Hello Jith,

The problem that with a starschema you have severals tables.

If you only need the measures (amount, convamount and consamount) you need to extract one table: 'Default_coGlobalAmounts', so I guess that with SAP DataServices it is possible to make it but you need to have some good skills in designing jobs.

However, I think it's maybe possible with FIM.

You can create a datasource based on this table as a source, and a datastore as BW.

then you will map your tables and run the job.

BW can either be a source or target of a FIM job.

Hope it will help you.

Hello,

You can deploy the equivalent of your SQL starschema into a BW cube.

It may also require you to change some settings into your cube designer settings. (the xml file into the cuber designer installation folder)

You can copy paste the installation folder to have 2 cube designers with two different configurations.

Deploying in BW is not an option..

I am looking for options to move the data from the SQL star schema to BW.

I was wondering how other projects have done this?
