SAP IQ Express 16 report license error after 30 days. But Express is not Trial, so why is there this license error?

Hi all,

       on 17/01/2014 I installed SAP IQ 16 in Express Edition mode. 

I understood that Express Edition is not time limited (like 30 days trial edition), but it is limited in datatstore size (5 GB for datatstore).

Now, 30 days later, the following error is reported in log files during startup.

Just to give you a complete problem vision, hereafter I report the screenshots used to install the SAP IQ Express Edition.

Are there something wrong in the installation process described above?

Do I need to request a specific "Express license" to use IQ Express Edition? How can I do that?

Hi Stefano,

In the archived kit you should have a file name ExpressEdition.lic. This file is copied automatically by the installation process.

It seems that the file is missing from the "non dedicated" XE downloads. How did you get the installation kit? Which platform?

Hi Dan,

      I use the following link to download the Express Edition (this link was clicked 1 month ago).

I tried to put the "ExpressEdition.lic" file under $SYBASE/SYSAM-2_0/licenses/ directory, like suggested in thread (but nothing change, I've the same error in log.

I tried also the following steps:

1) I RUN $SYBASE/SYSAM-2_0/bin/sysam.bat status

2) STHE SYSTEM RETURNED the following error:

lmutil - Copyright (coffee) 1989-2007 Macrovision Europe Ltd. and/or Macrovision Corporation. All Rights Reserved.

Flexible License Manager status on Mon 2/17/2014 16:15

[Detecting lmgrd processes...]

Error getting status: No SERVER lines in license file. (-13,66)

Have you got further suggestions?

Hi,

1. in the folder $IQDIR16\sysam;
   1. make a backup of the file iq.default.lmp
   2. edit the iq.default.lmp and change the PE line to PE=XE
2. in the database folder, delete the <dbname>.lmp file (or rename it).
3. make sure the Express license is in the SYSAM-2_0\licenses folder
4. start the database. it should start!
5. connect and verify by runnig sp_iqlmconfig. You should see the License Notice "IQ Express Edition Free Deployment License" and Edition "XE"

All you would need to do is apply the proper license file to either the SYSAM licenses file, as you described above.  You can also copy the license file to the directory that contains the catalog file (.db file).  Either location are picked up automatically.

When you have the file in one of those two directories, what is the error that is shown this time?  Can you copy it from the console log output?

Hi all,

     thanks, for all the suggestions, but actually no good news. Sybase IQ report always the same error at startup (hereafter the detailed screenshot and following the log).

I've the same behaviour both following steps that Dan suggested (step from 1 to 4 because DB didn't start, so I cannot execute step 5) and the ones reported by Mark (copy *.lic file into catalog directory).

Note that : Dan step 1.2 ".. PE line to PE=XE .." in my case I've already the PE=XE configuration in "iq.default.lmp" file.

Based on the output, you can clearly see that it is picking up the proper license file:

The issue, as Dan points out, is the LMP file.  It has the incorrect license type and needs to have the proper PE=XA and LT=CP in the file.

I have downloaded the 'SAP IQ 16.0 Express Edition on Linux AMD 64' from the following link;

But I cannot find the license file ExpressEdition.lic in the archives as you have suggested, however I am able to find SySAMLicenseServer.lic. Please tell me where I can download the correct copy so that it won't expire in 30 days for the Linux. Thanks ...... Matthew

Hereafter the compelte solution steps:

1. in the folder $IQDIR16\sysam;

2. in the database folder copy the *.lmp file previously editedt at point (1).
