Hi Jeswin -

SAP is indeed bringing the Rapid Marts to end-of-life.  As such they are no longer available for download.

At the same time, there are partners, such as Datalytics / RapidDecision, who have licensed the Rapid Mart technology and who plan to offer similar products going forward.  Datalytics also plans to be able to offer support to customers once the customers' current maintenance contracts with SAP for their Rapid Marts expire.

Have a look at Datalytics Press release for more information.

Regards,

Bert

Why is SAP discontinuing RapidMarts?

HI Doug -

SAP will be focusing its efforts moving forward on HANA and replication technologies.  We will continue to support Data Services and BI as EIM and Analytic tool sets so that customers and partners will be able to continue evolving their own EIM strategies with these tools.

It seems to me that the decommissioning / outsourcing of RapidMarts is a disservice to our SMB clients who have limited budgets and limited reporting needs. For this segment, BODS / BOBJ on RapidMarts was the most cost-effective solution. The customer does not want to install BW, and they don't have the resources to implement HANA. Haven't you left these SMB's high and dry by outsourcing RapidMart support / licensing? How can they cost-effectively run BODS / BOBJ against ECC data without RapidMarts? The arguments all seem to lean in SAP's favor and not in the customer's interests.

Hi Doug -

I am sorry to hear that you are dissappointed with this decision.  I understand your concern about partners and SMB customers and for these customers SAP DataServices and SAP Business Intelligence will certainly remain quite attractive and fully supported tools.  Further, these tools continue to work very well against relational database sources.  Customers who choose not to invest in HANA and/or BW will certainly be able to continue to use SAP Data Services and SAP Business Intelligence.  Clearly, the greatest gap will be in the area of ETL maps between SAP ECC and the Rapid Mart data mart.

There are alternatives.  There are SAP partners who are currently investing in building their own data mart / DW based solutions using SAP Data Services and SAP Business Intelligence using the latest releases of these tools (4.2 and 4.1 respectively as of this writing).  This should address the needs of customers (especially the SMB customers) who will be interested in pursuing a new "rapid mart style" solution in the future where the data source is SAP ECC (or for that matter PeopleSoft, Oracle or JD EDwards).  In addition, for customers who currently own and SAP Rapid Mart solutions and wish to continue with support, there are SAP partners who are willing to provide this as well.  So I am not entirely sure that I completely understand your concern that customers will be left "high and dry".

The decision to discontinue a product is not one taken lightly at SAP.  SAP is committed to
providing its customers with world-class solutions that help address data and information management challenges. In order to make these types of ongoing investments, at times we need to end of life certain technologies as well
We have gone to great lengths to see to it that this action can be taken with the least disruption to everyone involved.

Bert, Since SAP decommissioned RapidMarts, are you aware of any SAP guidance, Best Practices, RDS, customer examples / success stories, creating BOBJ DataMarts using ODP BODS ETL (preferably without HANA). We would rather not start this approach from scratch. Thanks, Doug

SAP has withdrawn Rapid Marts and will not renew maintenance support.  As Bert Laws from SAP stated, Datalytics Technologies will continue to sell, support and enhance Rapid Marts.  These enhancements will include DS 4.2 / BI 4.1 integration.

Customers using Rapid Marts should contact Doug Corpuel at Datalytics (203.271.5604, dcorpuel@datalyticstechnologies.com) for more information and to ensure a Datalytics Maintenance Agreement is in place so there is no lapse in support.
