Former Member

Hi,

We have found that WIreportserver.exe process taking high memory in our BO systems. We are in SAP Business objects XI 4.0 SP 07 Patch 2 version now.

We have found that the Web intelligence server memory threshold settings to be changed in case of these issues.

But there are no documents that says about the recommended settings for SAP BO BI XI 4.0 version.

The XI 3.1 recommendations(SAP Note:1544103 ) can not be taken as its a 32bit server and the X14.0 is a 64 bit one.

Please let me know the recommended settings for web intelligence server memory threshold settings  SAP BO BI XI 4.0 version or any SAP note that says about it.

Any suggestions/ recommendations are welcomed that will fix the issue.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Sithara.S

Hello,

this is not an easy Question to answer because this highly depends on your sizing.

Maybe you want to get in contact with the SAP Support via an Incident to find the correct Threshold for your Deployment. Or even better with SAP Consulting.

Hi Henry,

PFB the answers inline:

which setting are you referring to?

There is settings for 'Web Intelligence Server Memory Threshold Settings'  where we will set values for  memory max threshold, memory lower threshold and memory upper threshold values .You can check the SAP note 1544103 which says the settings , but its applicable for 3.1.

and which ones have you changed already?

We have not done any changes in settings yet. We are actually searching for the recommended values.

what errors / symptom are you trying to avoid?

We are facing  issue in  'WIreportserver.exe' occupying 100% memory.

Please suggest and let me know if any other information is needed.

Hi,

Do you mean 100% of CPU or the whole maximum memory threshold of a WIReportServer (default 6 GB) is in use?  Normally, the Windows Task Manager or UNIX top/topaz would not show process memory usage as percentage.

If it is the 1st, check out BI4.1 SP3 and hope it would help.

ADAPT01713425

Description:

When you try to open a Web Intelligence document, the Web Intelligence Processing Server uses 100% of the CPU indefinitely.

New Behavior:

This problem is resolved.

If indeed it is 6 GB in use, there might be a bigger problem as the WIReportServer is supposed to downsize it memory usage once it reaches "Memory Upper Threshold", which is 4500 MB by default, by closing some of webi doc in processing.  If this is what you are seeing, Sebastian has good point to open a SAP BO ticket for further assistance.

Hope this helps,

Hi Jin,

Thanks for your reply.

We have already set the below values for the memory threshold settings:

Memory lower threshold:3500MB

Memory Upper Threshold:4500MB

Memory max threshold:6000MB

let me know if anything else needs to be checked on this regard or any work around that will help to control  the usage.

We are continuously observing 100% CPU and high memory utilization in our systems.

Hi,

I'd suggest you to log a SAP ticket with support to verify if ADAPT01713425 will resolve the 100% CPU on your BI4.0 env and high memory utilization in your systems.
