Can equipment be created as a material. if s how..?
Hi Kartik,
A serialized material (Provided that serial number profile is assigned to the material) is equipment with equipment specific views. The same time equipment shall be created without a material number & serial number also.
Example, in IS-U, energy meters are created as serialized material. So whenever serialized material created, it is automatically becomes an equipment, prerequisite is to assign a serialization profile to material.
If this satisfy your Query, please close the thread.

Hi Kartik,
A Tcode comes to mind while reading your query. This is IQ01. (Create Material Serial Number).
Keeping this in view, my answer is Yes to your Query.
1. Create a Material.
2. Run IQ01 with this Material with Material Type
3. Click on Equipment view. Fill all Equipment related data in Tabs (like in IE01) and Save.
Now an Equipment is created with a Serial Number. Which is identified by a Material Code.
(Pre-requisite: You need to have the Serial number Profile activated in Material master.)
Equipment = Material + Serial Number.
Now you can use this Object (Call it an Equipment or a Material) in your Maintenance Objects.
Beyond this you need to be specific about what your requirement is.

Hi KARTIK REDDY,
By using serial number profile it can be done,
Equipment & Material will be linked by serial number.
