Hello experts,

We modified some fields in append struture of EKKO table, while activating the same in SE14 transaction first it failed due to some authorizations issues. Later when we try to reactivate the same we are getting the following error message.

TABL EKKO already exists.

Renaming  of the table QCM8EKKO to EKKO failed.

Error in step EKKO-STEP6.

And all the table entries are missing.

Also please note we excuted in background mode in both the cases.

Require your expert advise. please help urgent.

Regards,

Srirangarajan.

Hello Abhinab,

Many thanks for your reply.

Hello All,

This is the proceedure we followed.

We took a back up of the existing data.

We have run the report RADBTCPY to take back up.

Source table was QCM8EKKO(Temporary table shown in SE14) and target table was new table which we have created which is similar to EKKO table.

Later went ahead with unlocking and redoing the process of SE14. But our luck data was not lost.

Regards,

Sri.

Is the change in fields were related to numeric fields? Have you shorten the length of any numeric fields in the structure? If yes , I would advise you to delete the changed fields from the Structure and Activate the table. After the table is activated, introduce the new change to fields.

Thanks, Abhinab

Hello Abhinab,

Many thanks for your reply. But is it fine to cancel the existing SE14 run. Will not have any inconsistencies in data. we are bit afraid in canceling the existing activation (Unlock table) Since if data from EKKO is lost. then it would be a huge escalation from client's end.

In this process, you may end up loosing data.

For starters, have you tried to activate the fields changed , than the append structure and finally SE14 utility?

Thanks, Abhinab.

Hello Abhinab,

Thanks again for your reply.

Yes we have tried activating the fields changed, then the append structure and finally through SE14.

Then only we got this issue.

TABL EKKO already exists.

Renaming  of the table QCM8EKKO to EKKO failed.

Error in step EKKO-STEP6.

Some thing Basis could do about ???

I found this Below link. but not sure whether i could do this. just because of loosing the data.

While activating the table, is it going for dump? Try to adjust and activate in foreground and share the results..

Thanks, Abhinab

It will be nice if we can get any document provided  by SAP listing out the Do's and Don'ts  while doing a APPEND STRUCTURE to a Standard table. If anyone here has it already kindly share the link.Thanks.
