Dear Hitesh,

As a core user & as a consultant, i experienced the following points which may help you to differentiate both,

Now a days many companies are using the combination of both SAP PS & Primavera or SAP PS & Microsoft Project.

SAP PS is used for higher level planning like Finance, budgeting, costing at WBS level or sometimes network level. (This is normally used by Finance team & project managers)

Lower level day to day planning done in Microsoft project / Primavera. Then updated back to SAP since both are connected.

Reason for that is Primavera is more powerful in terms of scheduling & day to day updation is simple.

So it is more simple for lower level team such as project engineers, site engineers, supervisors etc to make day to day work simple. (Often They are not much concerned about budgeting & costing)

But the deficiency is it cannot used fully for Budgeting, costing, Sales,Material management, HR functionalists etc.

So SAP is perfect in integrated environment, which not only supports project scheduling, but Budgeting, costing, Quotation, sales, production planning for project items, material planning, procurement, quality management, HR mgmt etc.

So Primavera / MSP shall be connected to SAP and you can update the project progress back to SAP.

Only advantage of Primavera is it is more user friendly, easy to schedule, visual display is more user friendly.

Hi Vinod,

Yes of course it is very true that SAP PS is very well integrated with other modules like FI, MM, HR etc. But s it to have the facilities which are available in Primavera we can get the same from SAP. Like filtering the critical path by settings in the layout.

Hi,

Major difference is: Primavera is just a project management software while SAP PS module does the same thing but its benefit over Primavera is: it is highly integrated with other modules like FI, SD, HR, MM etc.

And Pros of Primavera over SAP PS , Primavera is more user friendly, scheduling & reporting is very good & low implementation cost.

Can u please let me know what constraints can come in future if we will use SAP PS instead of Primavera for project monitoring purpose.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

As I know, Scheduling and reporting like graphical reports are better and easily done in Primavera compare to SAP PS. Rest all SAP PS should be used if you want high integration with other modules for a organization which deals with many national and international projects.

Also in future you can also integrate SAP PS with Primavera& MSP if required.
