Planned depreciation rounding rules (decimal places)

Dear all,

Please check the data below

Asset bought at 475,67

Useful life 10 years

Depreciation start 03.2014

Straight line depreciation

My doubt is regarding the monthly planned values in the first year.

In some months we have 3,96 and in others 3,97 (but not in sequence, as month 7 and 8).

03.2014      3,96

04.2014      3,97

05.2014      3,96

06.2014      3,97

07.2014      3,96

08.2014      3,96

09.2014      3,97

10.2014      3,96

11.2014      3,97

12.2014      3,96

Total  39,64

Can you please explain what is the system logic to calculate like this?

Look in OAYO if your customizing is not configured for this company code to have the rounding specification = "Round down".

Hi Adriano

Its just a rounding difference.. It seems your dep key is Linear Dep Key, with Equal dep every month

Annual dep comes to 47.57...

47.57/12 comes to 3.9644.. Hence, the rounding

Hello Ajay,

thank you, I see the rounding performed by the system and I would like to understand why it occurs as it is.

E.g.: In the 1. month the value is 3.96. In the second month it is 3.97.

Why the system presented 3,97 right in the second month? the decimal places values are not enough to present 3.97 in the second month.

Also, why months 7 and 8 have 3.96 in sequence?

thank you

Adriano,

We have same scenario in our system, in us we are using 24 periods a year. And eventough the depreciation key is not following days in calculating depreciation in set-up, SAP calculates depreciation per month base on the number of days per month.

Thanks!

Hello Jay,

If this is the scenario, why months with 31 days have 3.96 and months with 30 days have 3.97?

It would make sense if it is on the contrary.

thank you;

You are right. This is the logical explanation I can think of, though I tried to calculate the depreciation on daily basis and the result is different. It is not a rounding set-up for sure, I am now tempted to ask the ABAP to debug it and to know the reason why.

Thanks!

Just looking on your example it is logically to think that SAP calculates depreciation base on the number of days per month. You can see that all data with 3.97 are those with 30 days and 3.96 are those with 31 days.

Thanks!

Hello,

Thank you for your answer, but the depreciation is not daily basis, but monthly.
