Hi experts!!
When i started learning Design Studio i think of certain things mentioned below.
We have Xcelsius Dashboard with all features available comparing design studio(as per my understanding). And i feel dashboard is quite easy to make a report when comparing design studio where we should dig our brain and write scripting.
Now my question is, what is the advantages of design studio and how it differs from Dashboard?
Can anyone clear my doubt and correct me if my understanding is wrong?
Thanks
Vijay Muniraj
My Take....
I have not used XCelsius to that extent ..... but then in design studio ...
1. Custom component development is easier - considering the libraries out there which can be used
2. Extensibility is easier and it is all service based without a translation layer of excel inbetween
Again .. my 0.02

I would put it like this
An Xcelsius Dashboard is:
- a SWF (Flash) application (does not work on Apple devices)
- needs all data in an Excel grid
- is not very good for larger data sets, only summary level information
Design Studio:
- is Html5 ready (works on every device, mobile ready)
- designed to connect directly to source systems
- can publish reports on 2 integrated platforms: SAP BI Platform or SAP Netweaver Portal.
- yes, some scripting needed but it's graduately becoming more user friendly (see latest releases & the roadmap). If you are looking for a very easy, simple business-user tool to visualize data (BI self-discovery tool), please have a look at SAP Lumira!

The tools are merging. The SAP recommendation from BI 2014 is if you are beginning a new project and Design Studio supports your data source, look at using Design Studio. Otherwise, SAP told us, you are looking at an automatic migration project.
