This sort of thing always reminds me of the scene in Dallas (the show) where Pamilla roles down the steps and dies. And then... after a few more months of Dallas "progress", the scene is set back to the evening before she fell down the steps (where she was drinking too much whiskey with JR) and the whole thing and everything which happened in between was all a dream - she is back again.
ABAP and Java will live on as long as JR and Cliff Barnes have enough opportunity to rename it and squabble about components from time to time... 🙂
Cheers,
Julius

P.S. Hear my dark and ominous and obligatory prophecy: 3-5 Years from now on --> Historical Name = "SAP Enterprise Portal", New Name = "SAP HANA Cloud-Portal" etc. because why not?
Oh, and by the way, I was very disappointed to see that the current "new" names don't fit in some "Business" where things feel really empty now without the "Netweaver" Term; for example "SAP Business Gateway" would've been sweet and probably more suit-attracting 😆

So now the question becomes, what will this mean for the base platform product, "SAP NetWeaver?" Will it just come to be called "SAP?" Or will it become two products, "SAP ABAP" and "SAP Java?"

Hmm... SAP Basis ABAP, SAP Basis Java sounds much better. While they are renaming things could some please go unplug all the "fridges" left in the documentation . I always thought Netweaver died around 2007 to 2009 along with SOA/ESA and has been walking around like a zombie for the last five years .
Its too early after a long & busy weekend for me to really think about this one, so I'm just going to follow and watch the conversation unfold
Cheers,
G.
