System Copy from Prod to Test on distributed system

Former Member

I´m Planning a system copy from my my production to test.

System is based on SAP Netweaver 7.4

My plan is to do a backup/restore  option and use sapinst on swpm.

Are these the right steps to take ?

  1. Export users and rfc on target system.
  2. Backup prod database.
  3. Restore prod database on test and rename database.
  4. Run sapinst on database server.

Hello Mahak,

Firstly could you please clarify if you just want to refresh your current test system with data from production? Or do you want to create a new system from production?

If the test system does already exist, then you can use the option you were choosing: Database Refresh or Move.

This option is used when you want to refresh the data from an existing system.

But the steps you provided are not correct. The steps would be:

1. Take a backup of the production system;

2. Run SWPM on target system and choose option Database Refresh or Move.

Then you can restore the data from production to your test system.

But if the test system does not exist, then you need to build it up using the production data.

In this case you need to follow the database-specific procedure in the system copy guide (Homogeneous System Copy).

You can find the guide at:

http://www.service.sap.com/sltoolset ->

Software Logistic Toolset 1.0 ->

[Scroll down the page] System Provisioning ->

Installation: Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver 7.1 and Higher

Also make sure you are using the latest version of SWPM available in the SAP Marketplace:

Hi,

I am also trying to do a refresh of ABAP system only Netweaver 7.4 system.  It is a distributed system.  Where do I perform the refresh sapinst.  I am also selecting database move and refresh and am not able to select the database as it does not show up.

Thanks.

Hi Mahak,

See Cherry's instructions above from July 8 in which she states that you should probably select "Database Instance" and not "Database Refresh or Move."

Hi, Vioar

According to your screenshot, I noticed that you chose the system copy based on a ABAP stack.

For ABAP system copy with SQL Server specific method, you don't need to need the export step.

Please download the System copy guide from the following path:

     - I&U guides

     - SAP NetWeaver

     - SAP NetWeaver 7.4

     - Installation

     - On the left side, select "2-Installation-SAP NetWeaver Systems" on the bottom window.

     -  Open "System copy : Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver 7.1 or Higher"

     -  Select Operating System Windows and select ABAP.

     -  on Chapter "5.3MS SQL Server-Specific Procedure", you can find the system copy steps.

In your initial screeshots, you selected  "Database refresh and Move" as your installation purpose. It isn't a correct option for your current scenario, unfortunately.

On your target system, you need to install a SAP system above the restored/renamed database.

Because you selected the Distributed system as your target system, which means your database instance and central instance (ASCS instance) are not on the same servers. If SQL Server is currently installed on this server, you need to choose Database instance on this screenshot.

Please correct your selection on the SAPinst wizard. If it still doesn't work, please let me know your detailed system scenario--standard system or distributed system? ABAP or Dual Stack?

Best regards.

Cherry.

If you have a distributed system, yes,  install the database instance on the database server.

Hi Vioar,

The steps could be as follows

  1. Export users and rfc on target system.
  2. Backup prod database.
  3. Run sapinst on test server and follow the steps for system copy.
  4. Restore prod database on test as prompted by sapinst
  5. Post restoration, continue with sapinst
  6. Refer SAP note
683447SAP Tools for MS SQL Server

and execute this tool to convert the scehma

Hope this helps.

Hi Vioar,

Is your test system on distributed environment ?

In that case from the screen shot which you shared, choose Database instance.

Hope this helps.
