Logon to HANA from Analysis for Office

Hi,

I have a question on how others have setup the connection to HANA for Analysis for Office. I am wanting to setup end users to access data from HANA using Analysis for Office.

According to the Administrator Guide the SAP HANA OLAP connections are currently not SSO compatible.  Also according to the guide an OLAP connection to the Hana database with authentication type Pre-defined cannot work with Analysis for Office because the pre-defined user (and password) is not exposed to local clients such as Analysis.

We have HANA Analytic views and Caculation views which we are accessing using Analysis for Office using an OLAP connection defined in the CMC. At the moment the way for users to access the HANA data is to log in to the HANA system through a SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform prompt and then a second login prompt to HANA. This is not a very good solution as users have to go through two prompts entering two user ids and passwords. Also this means that every end user has to have a HANA login as well rather than us being able to setup a pre-defined user in HANA like we can with Analysis for OLAP.

I am hoping that someone can shed some light on what a good solution might be.

Note:We have native HANA and we don’t have BW on HANA.

We are also experiencing the same issue.

CMC: set up hana HTTP Connection with authorization pre-defined.

User logs on to BO, but also needs to logon once again to HANA, he doesn't take the pre-defined user set at the connection.

Any idea how to solve this?

Predefined option is not recognized by client tools. So it's of no use.

You will be prompted twice.

Setup is that user (specific id) logons to BO and then the same HANA user will be used for all users to open views in analysis for office.

Unfortunately...there is no way out.

Try to setup "HANA Authentication" in CMC. Theoretically it may work but have not tried it myself.

Hi Stephen,

Check this, if it works

Create http connection in CMC as SSO

Go to CMC> Application>HANA Authentication> Configure so that HANA will trust BOP

Major prerequisite is BO user id and HANA user id need to be exactly the same.

This may reduce login screens to one.

Hi Stephen - Did you find any solution for your issue? I am facing the exact same issue. There is an SAP note which talks about an alternative "DB Credentials mapping" but that doesnt seem a good alternative.

Also looks like the AAO2.0 SP1 admin guide says the same thing... "The SAP HANA OLAP connections are currently not SSO compatible".

Are you still having your users logon to BO & then to HANA separately...?

You mentioned that predefined user name & pwd on OLAP connection doesnt work either.. I havent tried this yet but was banking on this option if SSO dint work out. Will be a challenge if even predefined user name and pwd on OLAP connection wont work with AAO.

Hi Gaurav,

We have not yet found a solution.  We will be gioing live with the users having to login to HANA separately.  After go-live we will revisit this issue to see if there is anything else we can try.

Hi Stephen,

AO 2.0 SP1 onwards AO is compatible to connect to SSO for HANA

But please note that, Currently AO 2.0 in phase of ramp up

GA will be available in April/May 2015

We also have set up a JDBC connection to our HANA to be used in universes.
This connection can also be used within Analysis for Office when accessing our BO system.

When we select the JDBC connection no username/password needs to be enter anymore for the Hana system.

However I'm not sure of the drawbacks of the JDBC connection instead of the OLAP connection.

We are experiencing the same issue, would be really nice if only one logon was necessary without using ODBC/JDBC connections.

Next release will have an http connection instead of ODBC/JDBC - see Figure 4

I don't know about https - I am not using HANA so I can't try this myself.

I did try setting up https for hana server, but gave up since it started to take too much time. anything less than https, however, cannot be considered seriously for a production environment, but should be fine for testing and demo purposes.

How have others setup their authorisations for end users for Analysis for Office?

Do all end users just have to go through two login screens each time they
want to access reports using HANA data? That doesn't seem like a good solution.
