we are planning to buy LVM. Before I reach out to my management for money, I want to have a rough estimate, here is what I got as a definition on how it is licensed.
are defined as the primary application server used for
central application services of the managed SAP application, including the
enqueue and message services (e.g. the central instance), any SAP Web AS
instances associated with the managed SAP application that is not the central
instance (e.g. dialog instances), the primary database of the managed SAP
application (e.g. database instance), or any occurrences of TREX or LiveCache
associated with the managed SAP application.
For the copy/clone/refresh option, only the primary system database of the
source systems are counted. In cases where multiple databases are configured
for the managed systems (e.g. shadow DB, DB cluster, LiveCache, etc.), then
only one database is counted, regardless of which ones or how many are
configured.
For third-party (e.g. non-SAP applications) and custom developed applications
the entire application is defined as a single LVM instance in SAP NetWeaver
Landscape Virtualization Management, regardless of the software architecture
for that application.
Though this is a very specific definition, I have couple of doubts on how they license HA and Clustered scenarios.
For example, we have our DB are SQL Server and are consolidated on a few High capacity servers and use Availability Group Mirroring and also our central services are configured using Windows failover cluster. In this scenario, only one instance is active at one time(both for DB and CS). Most software are licensed
for only one active instance, not sure how LVM will license in such scenarios. Also is there is a difference between production and non-production scenarios.
