Hi everyone,

I have a few concerns here.

Is it normal for a cms_log.ldf increases about 1gb within 2 weeks?

I have shrink the log file last monday. The size was shrinked to 102mb and when I check today I increases to 1gb.
Looking forward for replies. Thanks.

Hi Yue,

cms_log.ldf is the transnational log of CMS. There are lots of SQL statements being executed every minute. e.g Check Server status, monitor the schedule request etc

So having a ldf file of 1 gb is quite normal.

Thanks

Hi Chinmaya,

Thanks for responding.

Yes, I'm aware of that.

But it is normal to have 23gb+ and after shrinking it to 100mb,

and increases back to 1gb ldf file within a week or so?

Hi Yue,

The increase in size would be directly proportional to your system usage. 23 gb of size is normal for a CMS in a large and heavily used deployment.

If you are just concerned about the size of the ldf file then I would say don't worry. But if you are seeing something like, system slowness or increase in number of failed instances etc then it needs to be investigated.
