Extension of Functional location structure

Dear All,

At present we have functional location having the maximum length  of 26 characters now my client wants to add 4 additional alphanumeric values to existing structure. Is there any impact of changing the length?

And also in few posts i have seen the alternative labeling option is it mandatory in my case?

Hi,

There wont be any issues, unless you are not changing the structure, but adding additional 4 at the end of the current Edit Mask.

Alternate labeling is not mandatory.

Greetings Bhanu,

The necessity of Alternative Labeling depends on your requirement...

If you want to add additional Functional Locations at the bottom of your structure and you want then to have the 4 additional characters at the end, it's enough if you:

1) change the existing Structure Indicator by adding the 4 additional characters at the end and the new Locations will be appended to your structure at the new level automatically.

-or-

2) create a new, longer Structure Indicator, and create the new Functional Locations and assign them manually into your structure*(if you want them differentiated)

The maximum length of your Functional Location labels without Alternative Labeling is 30 characters,  so for 26+4 characters you needn't activate it.

If, however, you wish to change the labels of your existing Functional Locations, you will need to activate Alternative Labeling in addition to the Structure Indicator setup.  Follow the advice as given by Maria Terence and remember that the report RI_IFLOT2IFLOS needs to be run after activation of A.L.

Hello Bhanu,

You cannot change the label of any existing functional location. For new Functional locations you can extend the edit mask of the structure indicator by 4 characters in transaction OIPK and use it in IL01.

Note:

The maximum characters allowed in Edit Mask is 40 including the hyphens.
