HANA Database Upgrade from SPS06.60 to SPS07.73

Dear Experts,

I am upgrading the Hana Database, Currently I am in SPS06.60, planning to upgrade SPS70.73 or 74. Here I have some doubts, please clarify.

     1.   Can we upgrade the Hana Database directly with SPS70.73 patches? I mean do we need to follow any sequence in patches?

     2.   In last upgrade I was used “./Hdbupd” to upgrade the database from 53 to 60, can I use the same command / procedure?

     3.   What are all the IMP post activities? Is there any known issues please let me know.

Yes, you can upgrade HANA with very few restrictions. Now however you need to use hdblcm rather than hdbupd, which has been deprecated.

I am preparing for the same update.

The "SAP HANA LCM Tools Reference Guide" for SP08 has  Chapter 7:

"Updating a System (hdbupd, hdbsetup)".

In Chapter7, only hdbupd and hdbsetup are the discussed update tools.

I also feel very curious about this.  Could you please explain why?

Yes, see SAP Note 2000003.

If you are upgrading a significant amount then I suggest you test carefully. The bigger the gap, the more you should test. Between SPS, there are often security-related changes, so you should test developer functionality too.

23. Can SAP HANA always be upgraded directly, even if there is a significant gap between the source and the target level?

In general SAP HANA can be upgraded from any source level to any target level without an intermediate step. Exceptions are:

• Source level with SPS2 or below
• Exceptions mentioned explicitely in the related SAP Note (e.g. SAP Note 2020199: rev.64 to rev.66 when upgrading to SPS8)
