Hi Experts,

Currently i am planning to learn hybris. But before that i have some doubts.

Is it good to learn hybris??how long this hybris technology will alive??

Sap has acquired Hybris, so are they really going to implement in any of the solution or it is just to KILL the competition like how Sap had acquired Siebel and now it is no where.

So is it going to happen same with the Hybris or we can accept some good  future in Hybris.

Hi Nikhil,

1. Is it good to learn hybris??how long this hybris technology will alive??

Firstly to keep yourself abreast with the new technology, you can always learn these new modules.  I am sure like many other successful modules Hybris could be a good platform for SAP to enhance the e-commerce capabilities and may be it will help to overcome few shortcomings of web channel management.

How long it will alive, I think as an SAP specialist, we should be positive on what we do. Better to learn the new things with full zest and excel in life.  Why to think about to much into the future.  Let us accept the "Present" and move forward.

2. Siebel is now a brand name owned by Oracle Corporation and not SAP.

So on a positive note if you are getting a chance to learn Hybris , then go for it. But simultaneously try to acquaint yourself with other core SAP modules such as SD, MM.

Happy learning

Hope this will be useful.

Hi DJ,

As you go for it, new technology means both challenge and opportunities to SAP consultant.

Hybris also seems to provide more value in the area of B2C, flexible dev platform.

I have also started to check and learn Hybris these days and found that learning path(materials and support by SAP) is relatively better than other modules.

So good for your points.

Yes, you should. The bo-layer of WCEM will become kind of part of Hybris and everything around will be hybris. Hybris is based on open standards and state of the art technology, which probably makes is far easier to learn it. However, Hybris is a bit more as just like WCEM - it is kind of a mixure of WCEM + MDM + CRM + ERP  and Call-Centre, hence quite an amount of functional knowledge you will have to build up - if you actually will use most of the elements actually depends on the customer. I assume many SAP clients are looking to leverage their existing SAP systems like Call-Centre.

For Hybris Framework there are a lots of enhancements upcoming and some core elements are going to be replace - that will not change for the following years. It does have enabled a lots of amazing features, but in lost the focus on a user friendliy front-end as example.

So go for the training, which will take 3 weeks if you take all sessions. Thereafter it depends on you if you need few weeks or few months to build up the hands on expertise - at least it will be much easier as with WCEM as Hybris does provide you within kind of 5 minutes a running stand alone system including example data.

Hybris kind of does the same as WCEM, so WCEM is fading away. As already indicated, the heart of of WCEM somehow will be ported into Hybris and is using the same interfaces to call the backend, which WCEM does. This integration should become avaiable soon.

Everyone who is now shocked to hear WCEM will fade away should give it a second thought. The SAP integration to Hybris will kind of allow you re-use the knowledge of WCEM. Sure the front-end has no common element, but the business object layer and everything behind does. And to be honest, the HTML rendering process of WCEM was anyway a bit overhead, so that we can look forward to the Hybris rendering process. I see it in the mean time as a major upgrade - kind of jumping from WCEM Version 3.0 to 6.0

Hybris will also not be killed by SAP - they stay completely independent and have clear focus to also provide services to non SAP (or lets say non SAP-Backend) customers.

Btw. why you are saying SAP has killed Siebel? Siebel was bought by Oracle...

According to this page:  http://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=279937644

SAP web channel has been discontinued as a product and replaced by Hybris. This means you will have no choice but to learn hybris.
