MDG-F 7.0 Difference of Import/Export Master Data and File Upload/Unload

Former Member

Hello all,

On MDG-F main selection screen, there is a function called File Upload. Separately, there is another function called Import of Master Data.

Would there be any big difference between these two function? I think that file upload function has enough capability to load financial master records in MDG-F especially with diffferent upload modes SAP offered. Then in which instance, should I use Import of Master Data?

Thanks,
LUO

Hello Luo

Master data import functionality is used mainly for MDG-S / C and file upload used for MDG-F. Import settings and upload settings are different. You can go through the document shared by Sanjay.

For MDG-F use the new tool or the old way - file upload.

Dear LUO,

It depends on how and from where you want to upload, change and import data.

1.File Down load/Upload:If you want to create or change  the data with in MDG you can use this options.(text or CSV file)

2.Import/Export:if you want to import the data from any other system and distribute the data then can go head with this option.(XML or CSV file).

Hi Luo, File upload and data import both are used to create entities in the MDG hub. Difference is, Import need the business activity assigned to the entity type and there is a service triggered for this. File upload does not need any business activity. It only needs an open change request. Moreover Using data import one can extract data from any client and upload the same in the MDG HUB. Regards, Reema

With MDG 7.0 we can now use DIF even for Finance objects GL /Company / Cost center and Profite center.  But either ways you still need a Change request.  File upload is by entity type where as DIF is by object.

Hi Luo

As per below link

How to... MDG-M: Use the Data Import Framework | SCN

The IDoc doesn't support flex entities, as they don't write into active area. Therefore, the DIF can only be used to load reuse entities in staging or active area.
