BI 4.1 install on same server as 3.1?

Hi,

When BI 4.0 was first released I remember SAP stating that it can be installed side by side with XI 3.1.

I am now hearing that this is no longer the case and that BI 4.1 should be installed on a separate server to XI 3.1.

Can anyone comment on this?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi,

yes, you should definetly go for a seperate Hardware / virtual Host for BI 4.1.

Technically i think you are still able to install both Applications on the same Hardware but thats for sure a nogo.

Christian,

Its is possible and doable, out test server is currently running both on same server.

Here are steps to need to follow:

  • Installed on Windows 2008 RC2 w/ SP1
  • Install all you 32/64 ODBC drivers, our is SQL2008 drivers
  • Tomcat 7.0.35 ++  32/64bit MUST be installed manually
  • Install BOE XI 3.1 w/ SP7. Do custom install without Tomcat.
    • Use WDEPLOY to deploy WAR files manually
  • Install BI 4.1 w/ SP04 Client tools
  • Installed BI 4.1 w/SP04 Platform. Do custom without Tomcat
    • Use WDEPLOY to deploy WAR files manually

The install requires lot little tweaks   You can NOT do default install, that's why SAP does not recommend install on same server.
