Hi All,
We have ECC 6.0(QA) system installed. DB server, CI server and App server. These are physical servers and future plan is to migrate to VM. But my current issue is I do not have space in Application drive in this CI physical server. Most of the time reduce global folder and manage. Planning to move to VM temporarily ONLY for the CI to perform stack upgrade. What will be the procedure? Do I have to install CI on this new VM? Looking for a easy proposal. Please advise ASAP. DB is SQL 2005.
Thanks,
Kavitha.
Hi Kavitha,
You can un-install CI on the existing host.
Perform fresh installation of CI on VMhost.

Deepak,
Our VM specialist is saying, that he will make a clone copy of the physical server and that I do not have to install CI. All he need is to shut down the physical server after his work and start VM with same hostname, IP etc. He is not SAP person, I am not sure if this works perfectly. Please advise ASAP.
Thanks,
Kavitha.
As long as the host name is correct then it will work. You will need to install a new sap license as I believe there will be a change in the hardware key. Once the physical machine has been cloned. you just need to stop the server and start the virtual machine with the same hostname. If this is possible then you can avoid the sapinst execution.

Hello
Yes you can move the CI node to VM. You will need to do a Homogeneous System Copy. You can run sapinst to create the target system on VM using backup and restore method.

RB,
This is what I think to do, but as per the VM specialist, I do not have to install anything. He just move everything from physical to VM without performing any installation. This activity is scheduled for coming Monday. Please advise at the earliest, if his plan will work or not.
Thanks,
Kavitha Rajan.
