MM or SD for Sales Experience

Hi,

I want to shift my career from Sales to ERP,Has 4 years of exp in Sales and marketing for product and service based industry national and international.

I would like to take your suggestions for the module i need to enter in SAP.

I am based out at Hyderabad,if possible recomend me some Coaching centers also.

Hello Sumanth,

I am SAP CRM consultant for more then 10 years and would normally advise you to consider SAP CRM as it is much more modern then SAP SD and has a nice and sophisticated sales and marketing component. SAP SD has no marketing component. But I also heard that training centers in India seem to consider SAP SD knowledge as a prerequisite to SAP CRM trainings, unlike my employer when I was a junior consultant who thought otherwise. If you would like to do SAP ERP instead of CRM then I would favour SD instead of MM as SD is much more about sales than MM. Your target job role might be (Junior) Business Analyst, (Junior) Functional Consultant or Support Specialist at the beginning if you don't want to develop in ABAP.

Hi Thomas,

I too heard about CRM but in same confusion of its implementation andn training indian market.

My roles in the 4years of sales back ground were sales engineer and business development executive.

As per your opinion this 4 years of experience is sufficient or you want me to work for some more time.

I am not sure I should mention it here or not, some has recomended me to do Sales force, and in our organization we implement sales force for sales cycle.

Concerning functional or process experience I think 4 years of end user work is enough. If you wait much longer you might even get to old for a switch to SAP work. If you have the chance to get a job as a SAP super user or junior functional consultant and your new employer would send you to SAP trainings then that would be an interesting move.

SalesForce.com is a competitor product to SAP CRM. That would also give you interesting experience but not int he world of SAP.

First, take SD. then after2-3 years project experience develop in CRM

I agree with Thomas Wagner, you have to check and opt for SAP CRM Sales or Service because there is a huge change in SAP CRM Market right now.  Most of the companies showing interest towards to SAP CRM and if you look at after 3 years you will have a good potential market for you in SAP CRM.

I Agree with all the comments made by the members and  like to add Few Points.

If you check the Job Market there are  more openings for the core modules of SAP like SD,MM

most of the client are not opting for SAP CRM due to its High cost of implementaion and licenses,apart from that, they are opting for Third party softwares like salesforce,seibel crm and other softwares which very well integrate with SAP with very least cost.

For most of the SAP implementations core modules are must and clients are happy with that.

since your background experience is sales you can better opt for SAP-SD and for services CS

The Final call will be yours to do some research and take Decision.
