hi all,
i have SAP Business Intelligence Backup question ?
My environment
win2008R2
SAP Business Intelligence - SAP BusinessObjects BI 4(upgrade from 3.x to 4)
In CMC / Promotion Management, I am setup backup for BI(lcmbiar) Job by everyday
someday i find my backup file can't auto add my original backup job if i create new IDT or something
how can i to do this....
thanks,
James
Hi James,
PLease correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I understand you want to backup a universe created in IDT, export it to LCMBIAR and later when it is updated you want only the updated metadata to be added to the existing LCMBIAR ?
It is not not possible to achieve what you want using Promotion Management.
Promotion Management can be utilized to backup objects in .LCMBIAR files, but it requires that every object in the .LCMBIAR file be re-imported.
Better approaches for backup and recovery have been mentioned in the blog below in the Backup section:
http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-35154
Hope this helps!

Mihir

thanks for you help
James
Hi James,
If you add a new report to the folder in the job that new report is not added automatically to the Job.
You will require to create a new job which includes that file.
In any case, although its possible to backup objects using Promotion Management, taking daily backups using Promotion Management is not recommended approach for Backup of BO since Promotion Management is a promotion tool and designed to move objects from one environment to another.
Please go through the BO backup and recovery best practices guide for more on how and what to backup from a BO environment using below link:
If you want an automated solution for backup, you might want to take a look at the following approach for backup:

Hope this helps!
