Hi.. Experts,
can u suggest me which is the best way to maintain the Molds's no. of cavity in equipment master.
where we maintain the no. of cavity in SAP ?
Hi Lokesh,
You can use the classification feature. If you are already using it, you can add characteristics as per your requirement.

Hi... Sebastian Lenartowicz

For example Below :-

1) Create a Class and assign to the Equipment.
2) Create Characteristics
NO_OF_CAVITY
TOTAL_SHOTS
PRODUCTION
and assign to the Class.
3) Maintain Characteristics values for the Equipment.
4) Configure the view profile if needed.
5) Check t-code IE05 for reporting with the Menu > Settings > "Show/Hide Classification" feature
Hi Lokesh,
Jogesware sir is right, there is only one field left where you can maintain cavity no. I faced same issue while implementing in Foundary. They want some number to be maintain which they are going to be used to locate the equipment. We suggest same field which they can use for Reporting purpose but they want drop down list because they have fix value to it and they are using this number in their process (linked to PP module), so we created Drop down box with the help of ABAP as there is no any standard field available.
So you can also check for your requirement as if they want only for reporting purpose you can use "TechldentNo" but if they want to use for other purpose then you can think to give drop down list, or training is important to teach them how to enter in it (so that data will be in similar patern).

Lokesh,
The answer is No.
The requirement of custom field names are often in Reports only. So you can develop a SAP Query where you will be able to give a new name to this field.
The other Alternative is:
You can go for a Custom field with the help of your ABAPer. See this link. In this case even you will be able to have F4 help values by giving values to the Domain of your Z field.

Hi Lokesh,
You can change the Name of the field from "TechldentNo" to "No. Of Cavity" . the process is given below
1. Go to CMOD. follow the path " Goto - Text enhancement - keyword --- change"
2. Give Data Element as "TIDNR" click ok.
3. Change the Field description and save it.
4. It will ask you for Request creation. Create A Request and check it.
This will change filed name as per you want in Report also.
Check it and confirm.

Greetings Jogeswara, Lokesh,
Using Classification seems like a logical choice. Creation of a class such as MOLD with a Characteristic MOLD_NUMBER and assigning this Class to the relevant Equipments, and then maintiaining the numbers - could fulfill the requirements. The standard reports support display of the Classification data. You can also change the Equipment view profile to enable the display of the mold numbers on a tab.
It could also be more understandable for the business instead of having an arbitrarily named field such as "TechIdentNo".
Consider if you require creating a set of allowed values for the Characteristic.
Of course a customer field is another option, but perhaps more complex.
Lokesh, could you explain what is the mold number going to be used for by the business? Are they OK with haing to click-through the "Display Classification" in their IE02 , IE05 etc. transaction? Try out the solutino with the Classification and check.
Lokesh,
You can use fields
1. Sort field in Location Tab.
2. TechIdentNo. in Structure Tab
3. Object type in General Tab. (As you know this field needs creation of these Cavity nos as Types of Technical Objects in SPRO)

Yes, It seems only option is left for you. You can have this option. This being a free-text, you should not give room to spelling mistakes for effective search. This should not be a problem because of space-bar help which gives you previous values as drop-down to select from avoiding repeated punching of same word.
