Do HRSPs really require downtime?

Hi gurus,

Is it safe to apply HRSPs while the system is up?  We are thinking of doing this on a slow weekend, but we would still allow users to log on and batch jobs to run.  Warm Regards, CM

Hi Clifton

Please see the tip at the lower right of the below link

Support Packages and Patches | SAP Support Portal

There is always technical possibilities but above is the SAP standard recommendation - at least in relation to SPAM

As I understand it there is a downtime phase during SP application which may make the system un-usable and I am not sure how you get around that

Also I am not too sure what happens if a user is locking or using an object that an SP is trying to change - the SP may fail or an inconsistency might occur

There are some options which might help here - for example in SPAM there is a "downtime minimize" option

Also there is lots of chat about using SUM for SPs - and nZDM - near-zero downtime maintainence - perhaps this is suitable option for you  ?

Best wishes

Stuart
