Changing the Domain Name of SAP Systems

Hi All

We are about to change the domain name of the SAP systems. Some queries on this

1. Can we change the Quality and Production servers to the new domain names like Server-Prod.y.com and keep the development like Server-Dev.x.com and still the transports will move from Development to Quality and Production? or we need to change the Development also too Server-Dev.y.com

2. Can a Single SLD Server-SLD.y.com connects to systems from x.com and y.com?

3. Can a single Solman Server-Solman.y.com connects to systems from x.com and y.com?

4. The RFC connections between x.com systems and y.com systems work with out any issues?

Has any one done similar projects and How have you done this?

Any inputs on this very much appreciated.

Thanks and Regards

Before you make changes remove any and all domain links to other systems, oh you will have a difficult time cleaning up a phantom system in the remote system.

As long as you don't delete the TMS config on Dev it will continue to use the previous domain name, and if all 3 systems share the same trans directory then you can still move transports; you will more than likely have to manually added the requests as you have 2 domains now.

Now in regards to your trans folder and domain controllers, what system is the domain controller and what system will be the domain controller for the new domain?  Having 2 domain controllers share the same trans will also have you chasing problems due to each controller writing to the /bin folder and causing inconsistencies in your domains.

RFCs should be fine.

SLD should not be impacted, but it will pick up the new TMS domain.  SLD clean up may be needed for the QA and Prd systems.

Thanks for the response.

The development system is the domain name controller as of now and will remain the domain name controller after the domain name changes are done. From your response, I conclude that we have to move all the systems connected to the domain controller into the same DNS domain and in this case we have to move Development, Quality and Production to the same DNS domain names like y.com ( the new domain ) from x.com ( the old domain ).

The query now is if we start changing the Development systems, do we need to put a dual landscape for the projects and production support  till we change the DNS domain name of the  production?.

Thanks and Regards

Hi Velu

Could you refer the SAP Note for Changing the Domain name

Hi SriRam

Thanks for the response. The notes are helpful. it seems the note 1619720 talks about renaming the systems in an easier way for Unix systems. But there are still restrictions around the high availability systems and this need to be taken care by manually it seems.

It looks like we may have to put a dual landscape to support the production issues and for projects.

Please let me know if that is fine.

Thanks and Regards
