Transfer BI content from one project to another project

Hi Gurus,

we are planning to create something like a value added sandbox system and activate all standard business content and some common solutions, so the standard content and additional solutions can be ported over from this box to new projects in future .

1)If we activate the BI content and get in a transport request in sandbox and import this transport in a new project without activating the BI content again there?

2) Is there a better way to port over these solutions from one project to other project?

3) When we do this porting over will the datasources be a problem as the source systems will be different from the sand box and the new project?

4) Is there any common solutions that we can develop in BI that will be useful to be ported over to new projects?

Hi Amal,

1. in general this is possible. You can import tran.req. prepared in your value added sandbox to other systems. Just make sure that all target systems are on same level of version + its components like: BW, Basis etc. In general you need to keep all your systems in landscape in sync.

You do not need to install BCT again as it will be imported by tran.req. from sandbox.

2. not I'm aware of. While porting of some solutions between different BW systems you need to be sure that there will not be naming convention collision.

3. If you maintain proper mapping table between source/target systems then name of datasources will be replaced by target BW's ID while importing tran.req.

4. this highly depends on requirements within your organization. I experienced some customer which were reusing BW solutions developed in 1 BW in other systems as well...

And for no 4..as you know of could share any such common scenarios based on your experience?

re 3: I mean functionality in TA RSA1->menu Tools -> Conversion of logical systems names

re 4: well the very common example would e.g. flow of currency rates of this is being extracted out of ECC. If some company has some custom functionality on top of curr. rates in place it makes sense to include this solution (in reality data flow) in all BW systems they are using.But again there might be different examples specific to industry/organization/etc...
