sap data services 4.2 installation

Hi Experts

we have a environment of SAP BO 4.0 and sap bods 4.1

Now the requirement is to install sap bods 4.2 in new server and migrate the existing 4.1 settings to the new server. Could you please guide me how to proceed with this?

I understand sap bods needs a sap bo bi platform .Is there any way to install sap bods without bi platform?

Your inputs are much appreciated .

Hello experts

thanks for your valuable input.

Finally its agreed from the client to proceed with IPS and then data services 4.2

they have an existing oracle database available and db admin teamfrom their end.

In order to use the exisitng database and install IPS & DS, what information will be needed from the dba team?

i understand two database from CMS and Auditing should be created. apart from this any other details should be received  from DBA team for DS&IPS installtion?

You need to ask DB to create DS Repository.

Create repository with authorization bellow:

Create session,

Create view

Create sequence to

Create Procedure

You need more than 2 databases - 1 each for local, profiler and central. SQL server authentication and connection between the server and DB should be checked.

Only Create 2 schema for BOIPS and regarding BODS repository please copy the latest backup of BODS 4.1 in new SQL Server schema.

After completion of DBA activity upgrade the local, Profile & Secure central repository using SAP Business Objects Repository manager or REPOMAN Command.

Thanks,

Daya

Hello Daya

Thanks for the input. this is oracle database. I have requested for two schema (one for cms and one for audit) for installtion of IPS

Could you clarify for data services. what should be done

Better option is create new schema in Oracle DB & copy existing Local, Profile & Secure Central schema backup.

After completion of above activity upgrade repository (all 3) using SAP Business Objects Repository Manager or REPOMAN command.

After completion of upgrade activity add all repository in Central management console asign the rights.

Thanks,

Daya

Hello Daya.

Assumptions

FOR IPS

creata two database for audit and CMS

For Dataservices

do we need a seperate schema? ( as u said Better option is create new schema in Oracle DB )

I will ask admin team to take backup and restore on new environment the following

local,profile,secure central schemas

the only clarification needed whether i should ask them to create additonal schema for data services or just the backup/restore of local, profile, secure central schemas will be sufficient?

Hello Daya

assuming we are not creating a schema for ds repositoryand we are using the backup/resotre of local, profile ,central repositoryfrom existing systems,

which option should be selected during repostory configuration?

use a exisitng database server or  skip configuration

since we didnt create a schema for DS. how to configure those settings.

Hi Rintu,

You have to use skip  configuration in the data services.  We can configure the repository, job server  and access server after the completion of the installation.

Thanks & Regards,

Ramana.

Hello

since we didnt create the schema, where could  the existingg backup of local, central schema should be restored?

We need to create schema or restore the backup before doing the configuration of the data services.  Without restore of the backup file we cannot do any thing .

You can skip that activity, after installation use sap business object data services repository manager to upgrade repository.

Why do you want to install SP1, P2, if you have latest SP3 patch1. Go with latest one.

I understand . but the client requirement was to go with 4.2 SP1 P2 since they have already implementated in other account

Hi Roy,

Only deploy latest backup in new schema and then do the below steps:

(a) Upgrade using SAP Business Objects Repository Manager or REPOMAN Command

(b) Add in Central management console and apply rights & security

(c) Validate & Test the Job

Hi,

Yes you can install IPS (Information Platform Services) instead of BI platform. IPS is actually recommended by SAP for CMS.

Hello Arun,

Thanks for your reply. I understand IPS or BI can be used for sap data services 4.2 installation.

One of our project requirements is to install sapdata servicess 4.2 first and after a month they have a plan to install sap bo 4.1.

How its possible to install sap bods 4.2 without sap bo?

is there anyway to do a standalone installtion?

Former Member

Hi,

Its not possible to install DS without SAP BO. Yes standalone installation is possible -

1) Install IPS first

2) Then Install DS 4.2 on IPS. Here, IPS will act as the BO CMS.

Hope this helps.

Arun

Hello Daya

Thanks for your valuable input.. As i said before we need to migrate the existing settings from sap bods 4.0 sp2 to newly installed sap bods 4.2 sp1. It is an oracle database for the existing 4.0 sp2.

As per my understanding, i will install sap bods 4.2sp1 on new server. post that how to migrate the jobs/etc from the old server to the new sap bods 4.2 sp1
