Hello all,
Need help on this,
i have a ERP 5 with historical data in SQL 2005, and ím planning a upgrade to SQL 2012 and windows server 2012
is this possible to do with backup/restore method?
or do i need to do a upgrade?
Kind regards
Oscar
Hi Oscar,
- You need to check the target requirement from PAM.
such as MSSQL 2012 is supported or not on windows 2012 , sap system is supported on DB and windows.
- Don't follow the simple backup and restore method. Take the export of DB/SAP through sapinst.
So it will be homogeneous migration in other terms homogeneous system copy.
- Then import the same on the target system with the help of sapinst.
So you need to figure out properly with your scenario
Follow the suggestion of deepak and Paul

Since you are changing SQL Server version and OS, you may want to consider performing homogeneous system copy. If ERP 5 means ECC 5, you may want to check the PAM to confirm that this old release would be supported on the new database and OS versions.

Hi Oscar,
I shall request you to follow below SAP notes to check out pre-requisites before moving to MSSQL 2012/ Windows 2012.
1676665 - Setting up Microsoft SQL Server 2012
1651862 - Release planning for Microsoft SQL Server 2012
683447 - SAP Tools for MS SQL Server
MSSQL 2005 can be copied to MSSQL 2012 is all the pre-requisities mentioned in above SAP notes are fulfilled .
Hope this helps.
