Variant Configuration from the SD view-point- Basics

Hi Experts,

I want to understand the concept of VC from the SD point of view and from the very basics. I have tried many links here and elsewhere on the web but i don't think i am ready for that information yet, as i have no knowledge of VC, whatsoever. Can you please give me the info/ links so that i can start from the A, B C.
