Crystal Xcelsius (BI Dashboard) will start but immediately crashes

Hi Everyone,

I have installed Crystal XCelsius in a development environment and am having trouble getting it to run.  When I open the application it starts, then all of the tabs gray out and I get an error message saying Xcelsius has stopped working.  When I debug the issue (using VS 2008) I get the following error: Unhandled exception at 0x0054f37a in Xcelsius.exe 0xC0000005. Access violation reading 0x0000000.

Crystal Reports works fine, but I keep running into issues with Xcelsius. Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi David,

As soon as you launch the application there are certain adds below which searches for internet access if there is no internet access the application crashes.

For more information you could refer the following link which would provide the settings required to disable the internet.

Let me know if this helps!!

Hi Dave,

Check :

https://css.wdf.sap.corp/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/sno/ui_entry/entry.htm?param=69765F6D6F64653D3...

Just in case, I copy here its contents:

Symptom

  • Error: "Xcelsius has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop
working correctly. Please close the program."

xcelsius.jpg

  • Issue seen on machine which has existing Business Objects 6.5 client
    components installed.
  • The issue is intermittent. That is, the error may go away and Xcelsius may
start working for a brief period of time. However, restarting the machine may
    bring back the issue.

Environment

  • Xcelsius 2008 Enterprise Service Pack 3
  • Business Objects 6.5
  • Windows Vista client machine

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Business Objects 6.5 client components already present on Vista machine.
  2. Install Xcelsius 2008 Enterprise SP3 on that machine.
  3. Try to launch Xcelsius.

Resolution

  1. Uninstall Xcelsius from the machine.
  2. Uninstall Business Objects 6.5 client components from the machine.
  3. Install Xcelsius and then install Business Objects 6.5 client (if needed).

Hi Hugo,

I am running Xcelsius 4.0 in a Windows 7 environment.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled Xcelsius, but it hasn't helped - the issue repeats.

Best,

Dave

Hope that helps.

David, the application generally crashes if you do not have all pre-requisites in place.

Would you update this thread with the environment details like

Version of:

- OS

- Xcelsius/Dashboard

- Microsoft Excel

- Flash Player

?

Hi Tejas,

My responses to your questions are below:

- OS: Windows 7 SP1

- Xcelsius/Dashboard: SAP Business Objects/Xcelsius 4.0

- Microsoft Excel: 2010 SP1 (via MS Office 2010 SP1)

- Flash Player: Adobe Flashplayer 14 ActiveX

Interestingly, when I was given temporary access to the Internet today, the BI Dashboard/Xcelsius did not crash when I opened it, but the icons on the toolbar did not load properly.

Please advise.

Best,

Dave

Dashboards Start Page needs an access to internet but that does not seem related to your application crash.

Please confirm if MS-Excel is 32bit and not 64-bit.

Tejas
