We have two servers, CRM and CEI. We want to run SLT replication from CRM to CEI. From what I read my options are:
I have read nothing saying we can install SLT on the target server (CEI).
My Basis person has installed SLT on the target server and it appears to work (partly). It this a valid architecture? What are the reasons for it not being listed in the training material?
Thanks
Cliff
Hi Cliff,
technically spoke you can install SLT everywhere with a NW 7.02 or higher stack. For productive usuage we recommend to have a seperate instance. SLT requires jobs, so you will only have impact on the seperate instance not on the source or target. In addition you can patch SLT server whenever necessary without doule checking the patch window of the source/target. Especially when you have SLT as a strategic component in you landscape (you also want to replicate into BW, non-ABAP, directly ABAP like central journal) it make sense to operate only one single box.
When you want to have less systems as possible you can install SLT on the source and the target. The target setup is not described in the guide, because we cannot expect that all target HANA systems have a NW stack available.
At the end it is your choice where to put the SLT box.
Best,
Tobias
