(Regular) dataflow: DS generates SQL code to retrieve contents from the underlying database. This is typically used to extract data from a single ECC table.
ABAP dataflow: DS generates ABAP code that is pushed to ECC. This approach is recommended for performance reasons when data is needed from multiple tables joined together. You'll have to use the ABAP dataflow as a source in a normal dataflow.
