I am getting a bdoc error to fill in required entries. When trying to debug referring to note 1541354 I get to step 7 and nothing happens when I click debug, the queue just goes away.

I believe the reason for that is the user maintained for destination ECC in transaction SM59 isn't a dialog user.
Assign a dialog user under the Logon Tab(in SM59 for ECC) and you shall be able to proceed.
