Need Best Practice/Recommendation ASAP

Hi All,

We have a critical requirement with new on-boarding project.

Requirement:

1)     Around 30+ reports with Parent/Child report relationships using opendocument funcationality

2)     Backend SAP BW with BICS SSO connectivity and all are webi reports (BW 7.0.2)

3)     Environment BI 4 SP6 Patch 12 windows CMS/processing with NAS FRS and Linux Weblogic Web Tier - 4 Processing 2 CMS - 2 Weblogic(4 Manage servers) and 16 webi processing servers with 4 APS DSL 8 GB heap

4)     Max queries in a report 5 with complex charts/graphs and calcualtions and 25,000 rows of data in child reports.

5)     All the reports executions in the backend takes not more than 10 seconds and Business Requirement is to display the report with in 15 seconds.

Parent Report:     parent report will have 3 links to child reports and it passes the user id and user budget levels to get the user specific data

Also parent report has some opendoc hyperlinks which opens some child reports in drill down/drill across mode in new tabs

30 users and around 800 users and their different levels

1)     Scheduling the reports for each user is not possible because it will be 30*800 combinations

2)     Data caching is available only for excel/pdf/csv without webi and data caching also requires schedule jobs setup which is not possible

USERS STRICTLY WANT TO USE ONLY WEBI FUNCTIONALITY AND NO EMAILING EXCEL/PDF AND ONLY OPENDOC WEBI FEATURE.

Reports with data should be available in less than 2 hours after data load is complete. Monthly twice data load happens.

1)     Do you guys recommend any tool/procedure for this to achieve where data should be pre populated or cached and user open doc links should open the reports without refresh?

My requirement in brief:

1)      Master/Child reports

2)     Users want to open the reports using opendocument without refresh in 30*800 combinations

3)     Less effort needed for maintenance and setup.

this "30*800 combinations" -  needs clarification.

what combinations ? how are they created ? what are they based on ? what is the business need ?

each user will have access to different budget levels in Finance project. We have 30 different report requirements and 2 master reports will have links to these 30 reports using opendocument.

When user Opens the master report he will see the summary page of his levels/access.

Business wants report should be opened in less than 15 seconds if the all the underlying queries are completing less than 10 seconds

ok, so you have 2 problems to solve :

1. Design solution to deliver information required in the form required
2. build environment which can deliver performance acceptable to users.

Agree.

We came up with this opendocument concept after many POCs for the business needs.

Now the business is ready to provide the financial support to upgrade/add the hardware but we want a procedure which eliminate the maintenance effort.

30*800 schedules creation manually is not possible and making the data available with in couple of hours after data load is impossible using normal BO schedules.

So looking for expert advises.

Check out APOS Administrator.  I haven't used it myself, but it might address your requirements.

as stated it is not possible. If you do not want users to refresh documents - they have to be scheduled. But you indicated the scheduling is not available.
So, what you want is not possible as you have conflicting requirements.

Is it possible to write multiple instances(800) to each report using publications including user as owner?

If schedules/publications creates webi instances for each report in that case is it possible to open the particular instance of a user without refreshing the report while calling from opendocument link?

Publications use scheduling to run

yes, it is possible to create as many instances as you need of personalized reports for each user and then access them via opendocument without refreshing.

This is standard functionality of the product.

I think it would make sense to re-write your requirement.
Start with what you want to achieve.
What workflows your users need and results they expect.

then SCN can comment on what possible and what not and how to get best results...
