IBM Tools for IBM i SAP System Administration - Simple Question

Hi guys,

As i already stated on some of my previous threads, as a BASIS consultant i am a rookie on IBM for i Platform, so i wanted to know if you can tell me which IBM Tools i must have installed on a Windows Server (or Computer) to be able to do full administration tasks on both OS and DB (DB2 for i) level? Also if there are multiple alternatives tools for a same task it would be great if you can mention them. Current customer platform is IBM i & DB2 for i v6.1.

Thanks in advance for all your kind responses.

Best regards.

Hi Martim,

I would say, that this is pretty simple ;-))

You do need the iSeries Navigator in the "full version", not the one, that gets installed, when you leave all checksmarks as they are. Then you can handle all the OS & DB related stuff pretty good 😉

and:

the DB doesn't need much maintenance, as it maintains typically itseld - so there are a few parameters only. (e.g. QAQQINI)

Hi Volker!

Thank you very much for your answer .

Does the iSeries Navigator install the "terminal" access to AS/400, DB admin tool, etc?

Best regards.

Hi Martim,

yes, one option would be the "green screen" as well ...

"DB admin tool" doesn't exist, because there is "no Admin" need ,-))

If you are looking for an SQL interface - yes, that is installed as well ...
