Hi all,

I am doing a CRM upgrade, but the SUM doesn't start.

I got the following error from SDTServer file.

S:\SUM\sdt\log\

seems you are running it from the network.

Please extract the sum file in \usr\sap\SID\ and then try to run STARTUP.bat with SIDadm(Run as Admin)

The problem looks like an issue with the profiles for the instance QC1 with system number 04.

The tool is able to locate the profile for system with instance number 02 and then it check for the system with the instance number 04.

Was there an upgrade/update executed on this server prior to this? and if yes was the execution successful?

I would stop the current SUM execution and remove the SUM directory and download the new SUM archive and extract it. Start the SUM tool and check how it goes.

Hi Reza,

SUM is not able to get the profiles and it's directory correctly.

Perhaps, get a new SUM, remove old profiles and check permission once.

Hello Alle,

Thanks for reply,

Yes problem was SUM had looking for the instance number 04. That was Java part of CRM that was removed for long time ago.

This is working now

Thanks

Again

Are you sure that it was due to the Java stack of the system? If this was a dual stack system then there wont be a separate instance number for the J2EE stack. If there was a separate J2EE stack then instance will be JC<NN> with a separate instance number but the log says it is looking for the ABAP stack. Are there any orphan entries in the registry that are pointing to the wrong system number? Possibly that could be the issue.

As I know this sap CRM system was a dual stack, for some time ago that Java part was removed.

The only instance we have is QC1_DVEBMGS02.

There was a QC1_DVEBMGS04 in  /SID/ I had removed that and SUM is working.

Thanks

Reza

Hi Reza,

I can only speculate, but was a dual stack split done on the server? That can lead to :
"

As I know this sap CRM system was a dual stack, for some time ago that Java part was removed.

"

If this is the case, it would be a good idea to check all the profile parameters. Please go through the below note thoroughly and make sure that the right parameters are set:

SAP Note No. 741289: Profile parameters of the J2EE Engine are lost

Have a great day!

Thanks and Best regards,
Hemanth

Great Reza. If the server is 7.1+, below is the link:

Instance Profiles -  Configuration in the CCMS - SAP Library

SAP note 741289 is not valid in this case (for 7.1+ servers).

Hi Reza,

Checking directory S:\usr\sap\QC1\DVEBMGS04.

Nov 17, 2014 7:55:17 PM [Debug]:                                           com.sap.sdt.lup.sysinfo.InstanceDetector$InstanceDirFilter [Thread[main,5,main]]: Profile \\sapqc1\sapmnt\QC1\SYS\profile\QC1_DVEBMGS04_DKRDSSAP377 does not exist

Nov 17, 2014 7:55:17 PM [Debug]:                                           com.sap.sdt.lup.sysinfo.InstanceDetector$InstanceDirFilter [Thread[main,5,main]]: No profiles with prefix QC1_DVEBMGS04_ found in \\sapqc1\sapmnt\QC1\SYS\profile

As the tool is looking for profile QC1_DVEBMGS04_DKRDSSAP377 and unable to find the same at the location,so as also suggested by Reagan try to extract a new SUM and re run the process by replacing the old one.

Gaurav

Hi,

Check your JAVA version? remove JAVA_HOME if wrong version is there.

Uncar SUM tool again and run SUM Tool again

Hi Reza,

Hope you are doing good.
Nice to hear from you again.

As you would be aware, a java.lang.NullPointerException exception is a runtime Exception thrown by the JVM when your application code, other referenced API(s) or middleware (Weblogic, WAS, JBoss...)

is attempting to invoke an instance method of a null object or modify a particular field of a null object.

Most likely the SUM tool is looking for a profile (or any other file )that no longer exists.
Just increase sdt tracing as follows:

- exit tool

- Open the file <UPG_DIR>/sdt/param/logging.properties

- Find commented line "#### Set up tracing severity"

- Set "com.sap.sdt.severity = DEBUG" and Save

- restart the tool and repeat the failing step to generate new trace file with more details. This will give to the exact file affected.

Thank you!

Hi Reza,

Could you check

1) whether you are using sidadm user to perform the upgrade

2) Environment variables are set correctly for JAVA_HOME. Check using echo $JAVA_HOME

3) DISPLAY variables are set correctly. Check using echo $DISPLAY.

4) Check in /etc/services whether port 4241 is not occupied by any other service
