Basics: Appropriation Requests and WBS elements (2/2)

Hello,

"You can assign a WBS element to a program position only if the WBS elements directly above and below it in the hierarchy are not assigned to a program position."

https://help.sap.com/saphelp_globext607_10/helpdata/en/7b/d12753c93b11d195340000e82debf7/content.htm

Can someone explain this with reference to my previous thread linked below?

http://scn.sap.com/thread/3654449

-

1 - We have learnt from the link above that it is possible to distribute budget from program positions (we assume also end nodes) to any WBS elements at any level.

2 - What happens to approved appropriation requests and subsequent measures if we choose to destin the whole budget of their program position to an existing WBS element (e.g. 3 level of an existing WBS)

What is intended with this (Assignment WBS elem.-> inv.prog.pos. dependent on level)?

As of Release 4.5A, it is possible to assign any WBS elements to investment program positions.

Before Release 4.5A, only the assignment of top WBS elements was possible. Therefore, the problem does not exist on releases before 4.5A.

Thanks,

Jess

Hi Jess,

Please note that within IM module you can use ARs and IM programs/positions without one another.

And depending on the level of integration the restrictions are different.

Imagine that set A are restrictions for IM programs/positions, and set B are restrictions for ARs.  So if you want to use both ARs and IM program/positions at the same time then the strongest restriction apply.

You can link WBS level 3 to IM program position under condition that no link exist above in the structure, but AR can be linked only to level 1 WBS, and that is not possible at the same time.

Hope it makes sense for you.

Cheers,

Paulo

Hi Jessica,

The assignment of IM position can only be linked to a certain  level in your project. As budgeting is a top down approach, It is the best practice to assign IM to the top most ( Level 1) WBS or mostly to level 2 WBS.

assume you have 5 levels of WBS in your project hierarchy then and you have assigned IM position to Level 1 WBS, then you cannot assign any more IM position ID within this hierarchy.

And let's say you have two level 2's Design and Realization and under these you have multiple WBSes here you can assign different position ID to Design and Realization..

Hope it makes some sense now..
