Hi SRM experts,

Our SRM system version 7.0 is already live since past 2-3
years. There are more than 20,000 product categories in use which are currently
in single flat list.

We want to revamp these product categories into a 4-tier
UNSPSC product category hierarchy structure.

While creating shopping cart, whenever user searches product
category, he/she should be able to view this 4 tier structure.

So we want to know whether,

1. It is possible to modify existing hierarchy
   R3MATCLASS to have such 4-tier structure? If yes, how? We do not want to
   replicate from ECC as product categories are already existing in SRM.

We tried to modify it in 4-tier structure, but source
system is taken as SRM system for the re-positioned product categories and not
back-end ECC. If I select product category in Shopping cart, then it gives
different Mapping RFC errors. So how can we change it so that re-positioned
product categories have source system as back-end ECC?

1. Badi BBP_PRODCAT_HIER documentation says that,
   this BADI can be used to change a structure that you get from the ERP System into a
   hierarchical structure or tailor the existing structure to the required
   structure. But we don’t know how exactly this can be achieved? Does anyone have
   done this?

1. If not R3MATCLASS then if we create new product
   category hierarchy, how should we make it active? We tried this but in the
   browser the new hierarchy was not recognized. We assigned the new hierarchy to
   purchasing application using tcode COMM_PRAPPLCAT. Currently IMG setting,
   “Activate Hierarchies for Product Categories, Suppliers, and Contracts” is not
   active. Is it must to have it activated? What will be the overall impact if we
   activate it?

1. We want to have 4-tier structure of material
   group in ECC backend, how can this be achieved? We do not have IS utilities
   component.

1. Also we have found out one standard report BBP_PCH_ACTIVATE_REASSIGNMENTwhich is used to reassign
   (or restructure) the product category hierarchies from the backend system. Has
   anyone used this?

If yes, can they let us know how
they built material group hierarchy in ECC?

1. Has anyone used “Mat. Grp. Desc. 2” field
   (T023T- WGBEZ60) to have material group search help in 4-tier structure in ECC?
