KMAT in absence of Variant

Hello All,

I have a question on KMAT material Type. In one of the client

I worked we had KMAT Configurable material and we defined

various variants (Finished Products). So when KMAT was used in Sales

order and while configuring if the match was found for variant, the KMAT

material was replaced by the Variant in the Sales Order and then MRP and Production

Order took place for the Variant and the variant was sold. My question is off-course we cant keep

on creating variants for each and every combination, the purpose of VC is lost then. So if the

variant is not found can we Produce KMAT (through PP Production order), receive the

KMAT material in Inventory and sell the KMAT Material ??

Yes its possible and followed in all business process using KMAT's.

Material variants are created for few selected combinations which are fast moving and/or where business want to use make to stock strategy.

With ECC, we can use configurable material only with make to order, so you can use KMAT's but need to use make to order strategy only, you cant use make to stock ( selling from inventory).

Thanks Ritesh for the useful information. So creating Production order for KMAT and receiving

it back as special stock (E, Q)  etc should be possible.

Ya, its possible, give it a try using you sandbox.

You can use , strategy 25 for material.

If face any issue , come back for discussion.

Hi Sachin,

I would echo with what Ritesh has mentioned.

Use of Variant configuration is predominantly to 'produce KMAT' based on customers' requirement.

Material variants are created only for those combination of characteristics values which are fast-moving and you would not like to delay delivering the product to them.
