question about HANA upgrade steps

We have SAP ECC 6.0 EHP 4 / NW 7.3 EHP 1 installed at our company and we want to prepare ourselves to be able to move to Business Suite on HANA.

I have a question regarding the upgrade:

we are planning to upgrade to SAP ECC 6.0 EHP 7 / NW 7.4 next year, there is also SAP ECC 6.0 EHP 6 for HANA

However, we are not going to migrate source DB to HANA DB yet.

What is the order of upgrading?

1. upgrade to ECC 6.0 EHP 6

2. upgrade to ECC 6.0 EHP 6 for HANA (although we are not going to use it yet, as we don't have a HANA DB planned yet)

3. then upgrade to ECC 6.0 EHP 7

or can we

1. upgrade to ECC 6.0 EHP 7

2. upgrade to NW 7.4

and only upgrade to ECC 6.0 EHP 6 for HANA at the moment we will migrate to HANA database?

Is it a must to install both SAP ECC 6.0 EHP 6 and EHP 6 for HANA before we can install ECC 6.0 EHP 7?

Hi Angélique,

As you said that the plan to migrate to SAP HANA is somewhere later, you can follow the approach:

1. upgrade to ECC 6.0 EHP 7

2. upgrade to NW 7.4

You can upgrade to ECC6.0 till EHP6, which will also bring Netweaver version to 7.4 (given that your environment is supported) on your existing system environment. Later on when you plan to migrate to SAP HANA, it will be conventional "System Copy (Heterogeneous) " approach.

Following the above approach you can eliminate one additional step of another upgrade ( in case you go to ECC6.0 with EHP6 and want to switch to NW 7.4 then again you need an upgrade and then in case you want to move to HANA, one migration), however there is tool available with SUM for combined upgrade and migration to SAP HANA, known as DMO (Database Migration Option).

Best regards,

SUJIT
